Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 Overview

Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2: Same Design, More Potential

Yet another brilliant device from the infamous cinema camera company Blackmagic. The company is already very popular in the market for its range of some of the most affordable studio grade equipment if you plan on taking your production to the professional scale. The company has delivered on that same idea again with the Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2. This one opens up another world of functionality for you.

Features:

The URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 gets an updated sensor. A super 35 4.6K sensor designed to bring out the professional touch in images and videos, with smooth gradation and a superior dynamic range of 15 stops. The G2 has an additional feature to capture Blackmagic RAW footage while using film and extended modes. Bringing you a lot more possibilities in production. The hallmark of this camera would be its ability to capture 4.6K footage at a max of 120 fps, 4K DCI at 150 fps and 1080p footage at a staggering 300 fps. So slow motion and action shots get the clarity that speaks volume.

Like the former URSA mini, the URSA Mini Pro G2 can record high res raw data in CinemaDNG format at up to 60 fps. The raw files are powerful, having all the dynamic range and color tones so the post-production comes out lifelike. For those tight on space, the URSA Mini Pro G2 can record compression rates of 3:1 and 4:1. This still gives you most of the post-production power.

Functionality

It is no doubt the URSA Mini Pro G2 has built up on becoming more user-friendly. The addition of external camera controls helps you to access menus so you can change exposure, activate focus assist, use the slow or fast motion modes, affect exposure settings to name a few functions. On the exterior is a monochrome LCD panel. Displaying the most critical data so you never miss out on the main details. Another surprising feature is the built-in ND (Neutral Density) filter wheel. This wheel can switch between two, four and six stops of neutral density. So you can get the right amount of exposure for your task

The URSA Mini Pro G2 also rocks a 4” capacitive LCD touchscreen. Using it makes it very easy to navigate menus and access camera settings, view important data while shooting such as timecode, audio levels, focus peaking. One of the many ways you can interact with the device.

Storage

On the back are placed two SD card slots alongside the CFast 2.0 slots giving you versatility when it comes to recording media so you can adjust based what format you might be shooting. Another option is a USB-C expansion port to directly record to external drives.

Accessories

Having the same design as the former URSA Mini means you get to use all the accessories here too. Some accessories like the side handgrip, the VCT shoulder pad, broadcast battery plate, and EVF are specifically designed for shooting comfort over extended periods of usage. The camera is fully designed to be used both handheld and on a tripod and still give the most professional results.
