Fujifilm XT3 Overview

Fujifilm X-T3: The APS-C Powerhouse

One of 2018s biggest cameras has been the Fujifilm XT3. The Camera is small but that does not mean it lacks in power. The XT3 is jam packed with amazing features that make it the perfect camera for videographers and photographers alike. The Fujifilm XT2 was already a top notch device to begin with, while the XT3 builds on the XT2, it has definitely checked all the boxes it missed before.

Features:

The XT3 is a mirrorless camera with a a 26.1MP APS-C-format X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor. The sensor has been newly developed with a back illuminated design to give better lowlight performance. The lowest ISO setting goes to 160 which is pretty decent. The X-trans sensor provides high image quality since there is no optical low-pass filter. The X trans is also able to better replicate the surroundings to produce more realistic colors and tonal graduations. This gives you some of the most accurate color profiles you can find today. The X-processor 4 contains 4 CPUs and gives you the ability to shoot 11 fps with a mechanical shutter and a staggering 30 fps with an electronic shutter albeit with a 1.25x crop.

Autofocus:

Another improvement is the expanded phase detection autofocus, which covers literally the whole sensor are with its 2.16 million points. The autofocus feels fast and responsive even in lowlight conditions. The camera is equipped to handle the faster focus for subject tracking, and also has Face detection autofocus while recording video.

Video:

The XT3 is a powerhouse when it comes to quality video recording. To begin with, you get 4K 60p video at 10 bits 4:2:0, along with 4K 60p at 10 bit 4:2:2 via the HDMI output, but with speeds up to 400 Mb/s. You also have the freedom to record internally and externally simultaneously. You can also record DCI 4K at 30p and HD 1080p at 120p for some of the most vibrant slow motion shots. Alongside the 10 bit colors, the XT3 also has F-log gamma recording, that lets you record video for much more powerful color grading in post production, this really makes a huge difference when editing and makes your videos look truly cinematic.

Body:

The camera is a robust magnesium alloy build. There is weather-sealing incorporated so you can take this camera outdoors without having to worry. At the top of the camera you have multiple dials and levers for a more natural and intuitive control over the major settings, which include ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation. A 3.69m dot OLED viewfinder sits on the top with a fast 100 fps refresh rate and wide angle viewing. At the back is a 3 inch 1.04m dot LCD touchscreen which allows for live view and playback. The screen has a tilting design so you can flexibly work with multiple angles without worrying to miss out on the screen. A welcome feature for many users is the dual SD card slots, so you can store backups while shooting simultaneously.
