Canon XA50 UHD 4K Camcorder: Professional Video Production in a Compact Form

Suppose you’re looking for a high-performance, professional-grade video camera that delivers stunning 4K footage with advanced audio and imaging capabilities. In that case, the Canon XA50 UHD 4K30 Camcorder is built to exceed expectations. Ideal for broadcast journalists, documentary creators, and content professionals, this compact camcorder merges portability with power, offering cutting-edge features like Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus, 15x optical zoom, and dual XLR audio inputs.

Powerful 1-Inch CMOS Sensor for Cinematic Video Quality

At the heart of the Canon XA50 lies an 8.29MP, 1-inch CMOS sensor engineered to deliver ultra-high-definition video. This large sensor ensures superior low-light performance and shallower depth of field, enabling cinematographers to achieve that sought-after cinematic aesthetic. Whether you’re shooting in challenging lighting conditions or bright outdoor environments, the Wide DR Gamma support helps preserve highlight and shadow details.

Record in Stunning 4K UHD at 30fps

The Canon XA50 supports UHD 4K video recording at 30 frames per second and Full HD 1080p at up to 60fps, allowing for both detailed slow-motion and real-time footage. Whether you’re producing a documentary, filming a wedding, or covering a live event, the DIG!C DV 6 Image Processor ensures high sensitivity with minimal noise for crystal-clear visuals.

Professional-Grade Lens with 15x Optical Zoom

Equipped with a built-in 15x optical zoom lens, the XA50 delivers versatile framing options without compromising quality. The lens features a nine-blade circular iris, which produces natural and aesthetically pleasing bokeh, especially useful in interviews and portrait-style shots. This camcorder’s optical and electronic image stabilization ensures stable footage even during handheld or on-the-move shooting.

Precision Focusing with Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus

Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system provides fast, accurate, and smooth autofocus, making it easier to maintain sharp focus on moving subjects. Perfect for run-and-gun filming or solo videographers, this feature is invaluable for live events or unpredictable shooting environments.

Advanced Audio Inputs for Professional Sound

Audio quality is just as critical as video, and the Canon XA50 doesn’t disappoint. It includes dual XLR inputs with phantom power and a 3.5mm stereo mini jack, supporting up to four channels of Linear PCM audio. This allows professionals to connect high-quality microphones or external audio gear and fine-tune audio levels manually or automatically.

Also included are a built-in stereo microphone and a headphone output, making real-time monitoring and field adjustments seamless.

Flexible Storage and Simultaneous Recording Options

The XA50 offers dual SD card slots, enabling relay recording—automatically switching to the second card when the first fills up—as well as simultaneous recording to both cards for instant backups. This redundancy is especially critical for live events, interviews, and situations where re-shooting isn’t an option.

With MP4 recording capability, you can easily manage and share files in a widely supported format.

User-Friendly Design and Pro Features in a Portable Body

Despite its compact size, the XA50 is designed for professional workflows. It includes a 3-inch touchscreen LCD, which allows intuitive focus control and menu navigation, and a tiltable electronic viewfinder for precise framing. The infrared shooting mode lets you capture footage in complete darkness—ideal for wildlife, surveillance, or creative projects.

Additional pro-level tools include:

• Zebra patterns
• Color bars
• Test tone
• Built-in ND filters (ND4, ND16, ND64)

For enhanced control, the camcorder is compatible with the optional Canon RC-V100 remote.

The XA50 is equipped with a mini-HDMI output, capable of delivering 1920 x 1080p 10-bit 4:2:2 video at 59.94 fps, making it ideal for live streaming or external monitoring. The 1/4″-20 tripod mount ensures compatibility with standard video accessories and stabilizers.
